What is the point of a "debt ceiling" if it can be raised arbitrarily any time it needs to be? In my universe that is just called "debt" It gets bigger when you spend more than you earn.
How much money is being spent arguing about this? How much money is spent arguing about how to save or spend money? How big a line item is "Budget" on the budget?
When your umpteen trillion in the red, what difference does anything make. Its not like another n trillion in debt is going to be any les... (more)

I'm proud of our new Governor Christie. How brave to stand up to the NJEA (teachers union) to take back control of our property taxes - the highest in the nation.
The entitlements to our civic employees throughout the state, counties and municipalities is out of line with the business world. Over the last few years, most residents find that salary cuts, reduced benefits, and job insecurity or loss is a regular part of our lives. So is dealing with less; less salary, less benefits, less groce... (more)

We are in desperate times. I hear our great nation speaking out in support of the Arizona immigration movement and rightly so in my opinion. Since the Federal government has not stepped in to help our border states, they have desperately stepped up to deal with the situation. Good for them.
Stop crying about "my Grandfather, born here, will get stopped by the police and have to produce 'papers' because of his 'appearance'. We ALL have to produce valid ID when we encounter a law official. ... (more)

Recent political argument has relied on name calling to respond to issues - a closed mind approach to solving the world's problems. I believe in listening deeply to intelligent discussion, identifying points of agreement, dissent and compromise. Sometimes, I come away with a slight change of opinion. Name calling is not argument. It does not solicit opinion. It does not solve problems.

Is that not an awe inspiring word. It came to me one day as I listened to the news of another "holocaust denier" being prosecuted I really had no clue what the word means. Sure I've heard it used by the Jews to describe what happened to them during WW2 but the terms mass murder and genocide describe it quite adequately. So I looked it up.
Holocaust-massive death and destruction by fire. An example the great fire of London. That was an awe inspiring event.

I, for one, thought the rookie politician suggesting that our health care system promotes 'die quickly' is a refreshing, and sadly true statement. Refreshing, because he speaks the truth that career politicians would never go near (re-election concerns, contributions from the insurers, etc.) I enjoyed his walk-on appearance on CNN where his argument was convincing and sadly true.
When did health care become a privelage of government, union, and company supported employees with great, low co... (more)
What a concept... create a network of profit making health services and insurance; offer a cure for disease and relief from pain in exchange for money. The more money you have, the better your chance to survive or live a normal life. Only in America.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a capitalist, good service should be rewarded with money. I also have money and can afford good health care. I see the rest of the world looking in at our health care debate. They see greed ("I have good health care insuran... (more)

So I've been hearing on the radio a lot about the new governor from my state, NJ. He's cutting back on the fat that many government institutions have been used to living on for quite some time, and that's exactly what the gov't needs.
The problem comes in when they try to cut back on school budgets. Not to unfairly target the schools, but there is a lot of room to budge there. When I was in high school they were always getting new, expensive things such as running tracks, courtyards, and more... (more)
