My company has what they consider a brilliant way to motivate employees-They put a poster up with everyones name on it iINCLUDING the bosses-Everyone is supposed to run back and put a card on the poster anytime someone does something you think is nice.Every 3 months, the boss gets to pick who gets a shiny pin and gift certificate based on HIS opinion who should get it.These cards and bonuses aren't based on anything verifiable, measurable,or logical.Just opinion. The bosses think its dumb, the emplo... OK, So they've given us this line for the past... what is it? 20 years or so, and everyone knows it, right? They obviously mean to avoid illicit or 'recreational' drugs when they say that, but lately I've noticed something.
I'm not the kind of person to try everything that comes across my path, but I know a few things, including the REAL dangers of recreational drugs (which can be severe in many cases, but tend to be MUCH less scary than the propaganda machine would have you believe). This in... (more)

Today, thanks to the vortex-like draw of Wikipedia, I ended up reading a lot about the DeFeo family, and the Lutz family. Sound familiar? They are the subjects of the first 2 or 3 Amityville Horror movies. In my reading, I re-discovered the fact that Amityville Horror was re-made in 2005. I'd completely forgotten about that.
So that brought to mind the question -- why do they keep remaking movies?!
I can't think of any real reason to remake a movie. You have sucky movies -- a... (more)

When businesses speak of budgets for certain expenses, I often hear: "Its in the budget so lets use it" and "If we don't use it, we loose it." A predetermined dollar amount has been allocated to handle the given set of expenses.
The same mentality is applied to staff. There are two ways this idea is applied. The more common one in recent history, applies this logic to justify terminating employees. Efficiency in a process is increased to allow less staff or less equipment to do the same a... (more)

I've looked into numerous environmental problems and the root cause is either human stupidity or to many humans period, yet neither cause is ever discussed. Why is the obvious so strenuously ignored?
Read a study by a biologist comparing the effects of ants and humans disappearing. If the ants disappear there will be a massive environmental disruption and probable cascading extinctions of other species. If humans disappeared every other species would benefit.

Can anybody tell me the difference between belief, wishful thinking and self generated delusion?
If the religious believe God exists and Atheist believe God does not exist and neither has any evidence what's all the screaming and fighting about?
If God has a problem with sex and skin why did he/she/it choose intercourse as the method of human procreation or make skin such a pleasure to stroke or be stroked?
If God has a problem with homosexuals why is it even possible?

It seems there is always something around for the population to be afraid of and be "against". A while back it was Nazis, then Communists, then Terrorists lasted for a while. We got less afraid of terrorists and were no longer controlled.
The latest fear is pandemic. Anthrax and Bird flue came and went and no one stayed scared enough. Swine Flu is at the top of the charts now. We will do anything out of fear. We will abandon thinking and understanding because of fear. People are taking... (more)

I, for one, thought the rookie politician suggesting that our health care system promotes 'die quickly' is a refreshing, and sadly true statement. Refreshing, because he speaks the truth that career politicians would never go near (re-election concerns, contributions from the insurers, etc.) I enjoyed his walk-on appearance on CNN where his argument was convincing and sadly true.
When did health care become a privelage of government, union, and company supported employees with great, low co... (more)
