What is the point of a "debt ceiling" if it can be raised arbitrarily any time it needs to be? In my universe that is just called "debt" It gets bigger when you spend more than you earn.

How much money is being spent arguing about this? How much money is spent arguing about how to save or spend money? How big a line item is "Budget" on the budget?

When your umpteen trillion in the red, what difference does anything make. Its not like another n trillion in debt is going to be any less responsible. That path has long been abandoned.

I read that the US Govt is spending 200m/month more than they're taking in.... This is why it's falling apart, and it's gotten to a point where it's so effed it's not even worth talking about :(

They don't need to raise taxes, they need to STOP SPENDING MORE THAN THEY HAVE. This primarily should come from cutting the huge numbers of worthless employees they have, and maybe trimming back on a few programs.

Tighten the belt! That's what companies do when they don't have enough income, that's what individuals do when they don't have enough income. But that will make people piss and moan, and you don't get re-elected by not spending money. Look at how popular Chris Christie is for doing that...
