So I would just like to ask, what is so wrong with reading the occasional trashy magazine? You know what I'm talking about: US Weekly, People, Life&Syle, etc. Yes,I know all they are filled with are breakups, hookups, who looks better in what outfit, who got fat and who got too thin, how to lose 10lbs in 5min, who's in rehab, and the Kardashians latest activity like getting the mail, HOWEVER, is engaging in a little brain dumping really that horrible of a thing?
Now I can understand if that is all a person ever read. If US was someones form of the daily news, then that might be more than slightly wrong. Yet for someone who watches the news, reads the paper, studies contracts/mergers/technology licensing agreements and the like all day, I can't see how reading about Sandra Bullock's breakup makes one a bimbo.
I suppose you could argue that I could be doing something more constructive with 20 min. However, I think whatever you deem relaxing in your few moments to relax is constructive. If you like to game for 2hrs..well some might see that as silly. I say..good for you, you're actually taking time to chill. You could also argue that by buying the magazine one is simply perpetuating the cycle of ridiculous stories, paparazzi stalking, yellow journalism, and not to mention making these magazines who just promote trash millions of dollars. Well, I can't argue with you there. It's true. The only thing I can say is that I'm making sure that people like Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, and others who have no talent don't go homeless.

Good for you! Who is to judge what pastimes are worthy? I recall my father, following a long day at the office designing bridges and highways, would relax and unwind to his favorite TV show ... The Flintstones.
Productive people should not feel guilty in pursuing guilty pleasures.
