So I saw this quick blurb on CNN Headline News this afternoon, about a tussle with some 8th graders in Georgia... Apparently they were texting each other some explicit stuff, and the school and authorities are all up in arms about "When will our kids get the message that sexting is improper use of technology!"

There's a lot of problems with that statement there... First off, you have to realize communication is different nowadays than it was back in the day. I'm sure the people tooting their horns sent love letters, passed notes, and did any other combination of things because guess what? They were thinking the same thing these kids were!

The difference is, technology has advanced and made everyone's lives easier, and more efficient. This isn't always a good thing though, as the notes passed around were tangible, and there was only one copy. In the digital world, one million copies can be made as easily as one, and there is no control over whether the person you give it to gives it to others. In the case of racy content in high school, you can imagine it'd be in pretty high demand. The problem is, these kids are taking pictures of themselves and sending it to their significant other, who then can't resist the temptation to pass it on to their buddies as a "hey look what I got!" type of response...

The biggest part of the problem is when the legal system decides to convict the minor who had taken a picture of themselves as a sex offender, for possessing "child pornography", screwing them over for life before they even start.

It's a problem... but we need some people in power who understand the situation at hand, and not just react with an overly heavy hand in vain attempts to appease the public.
