So New Jersey is about to be put on a budget! It's about time! The highest property taxes in the nation are finally getting a cure.
When most of us are squeezing pennies to put food on the table, our government employees are enjoying pay increases, fat benefits and huge pension entitlements. Waste and fraud are embedded deeply in Trenton and our schools are bleeding taxpayer's money in an effort to provide mediocre education. (A familiar scenario for much of the nation).
Christie is proposing hugely unpopular cuts with the sharpest knife we've seen. His brave move to repair the budget without raising taxes will predictably create a stir, especially among the most powerful unions in the state. With his declaration of emergency power, the ability to renegotiate will finally give the taxpayer a voice.
Funny, I didn't vote for him... I thought he was just another politician with empty promises. How brave! How refreshing! Finally there is hope that Trenton gets the message: It's your turn to squeeze pennies.
