There are 3 people coughing non-stop in my row today. Two of those were coughing all day yesterday, too. I'm about to put Ziploc bags over their heads and usher their sick asses out of here. How many effin times do you have to be told, "stay home if you're sick."?! I have NO time to be sick. Between my final this week, and the seemingly endless Christmas shopping, plus social events, there's barely a minute to spare.
I swear to God, if this keeps up, I'm coming in here with a super-soaker full of NyQuil and drenching them all.
See now my office is like a sick-ward 365 days a year... It gets to a point where I have to laugh, because it almost sounds like a symphony of sneezeCOUGHhackWHEEZEsniffle, as well as other noises from all around. I don't know whether these are allergies, or colds, or whatever they are, but it DOES NOT END. Ever.
We ALSO have the other side too, the ridiculous germophobes... One woman has not only the hand sanitizer stuff (which she must use about 30 times a day), but also religiously wipes down everything with Lysol wipes constantly.
That, and the whole issue of your boss saying "You're not REALLY sick... GET YOUR ASS IN HERE". They may agree with the "Stay home if you're sick" think in principle, but when someone actually does it, they freak out.
So what if, given your expressed inability to handle down time, You
got sick? For the sake of argument lets assume it was not from one
of Your afflicted coworkers. Would You stay home from work as
You've indicated You think they should?
More simply put, what if the table's were turned? You say You
have "NO time to be sick". Maybe everyone else feels the same way.
And are therefore willing to go to work while ill so that they don't
miss a thing in their overly busy lives.

Let me begin by saying I *did* end up getting sick right after Christmas. And did I stay home? Hells yeah I did, for 2 days. On the 3rd day, I felt better, so I went back to work. That's what people should do. Don't milk the system, or take advantage of the swine flu paranoia that's going around, but stay home when you're ill. I don't think that's a lot to ask for. Work will still be there when you come back. Believe it or not, the company won't fall to ruin if you take a few sick days.
But these people are willing to go to work while sick so that they don't miss anything, as you say -- that proves my underlying point: they don't care about how their actions are affecting others. They spread their nasty germs around, and get other people sick, and cause those now-sick people to have to take time off, and Patient Zer... (show all)
o will be sicker even longer because they couldn't bring themselves to stay home and rest a day or two.
