So they play the LiteFM over the PA 24 hours a day in my office.

Its at low volume, but you can hear it, always.

They play the same 50-100 songs all the time. The same 50-100 songs they played in 2005, are the same songs they play now. They might have added 2 or 3 into the rotation. But its generally the same garbage all day long.

And it really is the worst music ever. I *love* music. And I hide inside headphones to cover it up with real music when I can. But for most of the day I cannot have head phones in. So I must listen to this crap.

We all must. We all must listen to the mind destroying, soul depleting, will grinding music, spirit nulling music.

During the Christmas season they switch to all Christmas music. OK great. I like Christmas music. But I don't like hearing Paul McCartney singing "Wonderful Christmas Time" for the 6th time today. In general they are playing all the lamest versions of every Christmas song possible in order to "not offend anyone". There is no value in what they offer.

I don't like the song at all in the first place, and SIX TIMES TODAY hearing it makes me very unwell. It also upsets me that many people in the office crank it up ( all year round ) and sing along in the building to all the crappiest music ever written or preformed. If your not at least considering stabbing yourself in the ears with a pencil then there is a problem.

The reasons why I am leaving this company will continue as I celebrate the 12 days of quit-ness. :D

Did I mention I really hate the LiteFM.

It really is ridiculous. There must be tens of thousands of Christmas songs that have been recorded over the years, yet Lite FM treats us to a solid month of the 100 crappiest ones they can find... over and over and over...

While I don't love 'Wonderful Christmas Time', I don't despise it as much as you do. As much as I hate 'Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree' and 'Jingle Bell Rock' (almost always played back to back) -- and that effin Christmas Shoes song -- there is absolutely NOTHING worse than 'CHRISTMAS CANON'. I believe the most popular version is by the sucktacular TransSiberian Orchestra, and it's essentially just the tune of Pachelbel's Canon in D-Major, with the amazingly creative and meaningful lyrics below added:

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas

The hope that he brings
The hope that he brings
The hope that he brings
The hope that he brings

This night
We pray
Our lives
Will show

This dream
He had
Each child
Still knows

We are waiting
We have not forgotten

On this night
On this night
On this very Christmas night
On this night
On this night
On this very Christmas night
On this night
On this night
On this very Christmas night

UGGGGGGHHHHHH! :P
I change the station or turn off the radio all together as soon as I hear the first note of that damn song.

We have to listen to non threatening radio stations at work too and oh my god it makes me want to jump through the speakers and strangle the people in charge of programming. The horrible Christmas music especially has my panties all in a bunch.

The sad thing is that there are actual people out there that really do listen to this crap...

The worst part sometimes isn't the music itself, but the awful non offensive banter from the sorry excuses for DJ's...

My small office doesn't allow music. Music is so personal. It can both please and offend. We tried talk radio - too opinionated (can both please and offend depending on which side of the fence you are on.) We occasionally listen to Bloomberg Radio to follow the shaky economy. We are currently listening to NPR - educational, but can be somewhat biased depending on the subject. Sometimes we crank up a podcast on a subject that relates to our work (my fav).

I also ran into problems with background music at a large flower & garden exposition that I coordinate. We tried no music, light and classic piano music, zen-like electronic noise, and lite jazz. We have determined that no music is best after numerous complaints of it being too loud or too quiet or "if I hear Schubert one more time !!!". We are going to give quiet bird songs a try this year - it goes with the garden show thing.

Background music, elevator music, etc. is a dilemma worthy of study. Does it effect work performance? Does it make people buy more? I love the music they play at the supermarket where I shop, but I'm sure the employees that listen to it everyday hate it.

Interesting subject....
